Baby Dylan - 102 wks (24 mths) old today

This week we will officially be the parents of a 2 year old! Saturday is Dylan's 2nd Birthday party here at our house and we have been running around trying to make all the last minute preparations. His is so in love with Elmo; so this year's theme is Elmo and the Sesame Street Gang! We order a sign for the front yard and a fun jump for the back yard!Dylan is so excited. I will be sure to post all the photos of our special day!

Our Home Improvement Projects

Boy,oh, boy, things have been really wild around here lately. We have had so many things going on; our house has been feeling like a major construction zone! We had a covered patio added to the back of our house, custom drapes installed in the family room (20 ft ceilings...massive drapes) and double doors put on our home theater. Here are a few before and after shots.

Family Room Drapes & Shades: I was so ready for something to dim the light and dress up this room and Matt finally agreed and let me get a design company to come out and install some window treatments. Since our ceilings are 20 ft high, this wasn't an easy task. I ordered the drapes and shades in Oct. 2008 The installers came to install them in February 2009, I am so excited to have this awesome window treatments in our home. My favorite 2 things is that the shades can be raised and lowered allowing light to be filtered and secondly I love the way the drapes puddle on the floor.

Covered Patio: This was a must on our list; being right on the top! At our old house in LA we had a nice patio and longed for that here in TX. Our new patio is the length of our home and has 10 recessed lights on 2 separate dimmer switches, 4 ceiling fans, 3 carriage lights on the outside columns, 4 outdoor speakers, flat screen TV and a receiver. We are now outside all the time!

Slate on Patio: Because we extended the patio width and length we had to wait for the slab to settle before any slate could be installed. So roughly 4 weeks later, the slate was installed. It really took the patio to a whole new look!

Home Theater Double Doors: When we built the house we knew eventually we would have to add doors on our home theater. So we decided on the 4 weeks we had to wait on the patio slab to settle we would have the wall floated and doors added. The doors really cut the sound out whenever someone is watching a movie with the volume up loud..umm umm..MATT! LOL

Baby Dylan - 101 wks (23 mths) old today

Dylan's 2nd birthday is coming up this month and we are having his birthday here at home. We decided to go ahead and give Dylan his BIG birthday gift from his daddy and I; he was delighted with his new swingset-treehouse!!! It's not very big but it is a perfect size for our yard (especially since we are putting a pool in next summer). Dylan's face was in a state of shock when he walked outside and saw it. He is such an outside person. Just like his mom!

Baby Dylan - 100 wks (23 mths) old today

Every single day; several times a day; Dylan takes a break from his firetrucks and choo choo trains to reach into his box of books a read a little. Whether he is comfy in mommy's lap or in his snug in his book box, he loves to get lost in a book. It's a wonderful sight to see and has helped increase in vocabulary tremendously. Right now his very favorite thing to look at is search and find books. He is such a little bookworm!!!

Mardi Gras in Louisiana!!!

Here are a few photos from Mardi Gras in Lafayette, Louisiana. We had the pleasure to meet Scott Durbin from Disney's Imagination Movers. He was partying beside our tent with his family. Super nice guy! Also, the last photo is a picture of the overalls I made for Dylan, thanks Mamon (Matt's mom) for your help!!!

Baby Dylan - 99 wks (23 mths) old today

My son has a wonderful imagination. He is always singing and dancing and now; he is pretend playing with his toys. It is the sweetest thing ever to see your, almost 2 year old, sitting in the window sill chatting to a plastic dinosaur he refers to as ,"DINNY!" This moment is priceless...these times are priceless!

Happy Birthday Dr. Seuss!!!

It was March 2nd, 1904 that Theodor Seuss Geisel was born in Springfield, Massachusetts. Today we pay tribute to Dr. Seuss’ 105th birthday.

While most commonly known for his children’s books (he wrote over 60 of them), “Dr.” Seuss was both the editor-in-chief of the college newspaper and also drew more than 400 political cartoons in two years for a New York daily newspaper. It was as a college student at Dartmouth that he started signing his work “Seuss.” Once he graduated, he started signing his work as “Dr. Seuss” when submitting it to a humor magazine. After marrying, he continued to write humor and illustrate. When World War II started, he began his political cartooning. Eventually he designed and illustrated posters to support the war effort, and joined the U.S. Army where he was the leader of the animation department.

Still, it was his children’s books that have helped beginning readers and have been enjoyed by families for several generations.
